Cannabis worth Rs 2.1 crore seized

UDALGURI, April 18 - Following a tip-off, the 61 battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SBB) stationed at Bhairabkunda achieved a major breakthrough on April 11 at about 1 am at Boha village under West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh with a huge seizure of cannabis worth Rs 2.1 crore.

Disclosing this, Rajiv Rana, Commandant of the battalion, told this correspondent that during the special operation commenced on April 11, the team of the security personnel was able to apprehend six persons along with 3,000 kg of cannabis.

The special operation concluded on April 13 and the apprehended persons, booked under Section B of NDPS Act, were later handed over to the Arunachal police along with the seized cannabis, the SSB officer said.

The arrested have been identified as Begon Gour (21), Bullen Gour (25) and Lobu Gour (21) of Kukurbhuka and Ram Gour of Nohra village, all under Mazbat police station and Akup Basumatary (27) of Sialmari under Udalguri police station and Bandan Basumatary (55) of Nalbari under Mazbat police station.

It is worth mentioning that with this, the 61 battalion of SSB stationed at Bhairabkunda had been able to seize more than 10,000 kg of cannabis in the special operations within the West Kameng district neighbouring Bhairabkunda in Udalguri district till date since January 2016.
