GUWAHATI, Jan 19 - A cancer awareness drive at Sualkuchi village in Kamrup district will be organised by the Department of Preventive Oncology of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) and Sualkuchi Yuva Shakti Association from 10 am onwards on January 20.

The programme will start with an awareness rally, which will be inaugurated by Dr Amal Chandra Kataki, Director of BBCI. It will be followed by audio-visual sessions on cancer awareness. This session will be conducted by Dr Srabana Misra Bhagabaty, Associate Professor of Preventive Oncology and Dr Ashok Das, Associate Professor of Head and Neck Oncology, both from BBCI.

Dr Saurav Goswami from Sevagram, Mumbai and undergoing observership training in the Department of Preventive Oncology at BBCI, will participate in the awareness sessions.

According to Dr Bhagabaty, raising the awareness level of people in the remote areas regarding the risk factors and availing cancer screening services is the first step towards cancer prevention and control.
