Campaign to support Sharmila�s struggle

IMPHAL, July 5 � A nation wide march from Srinagar to Imphal would be undertaken in September as part of the �Save Sharmila Campaign� to show solidarity with Iron Lady Irom Sharmila�s 10- years long crusade against Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA.

This was informed by Human rights activist and journalist Mohammad Tanver Iqbal while speaking to media here on Monday. Tanver who was here to initiate the nation wide march added that the campaign is being undertaken in solidarity with Sharmila�s 10 year long struggle against AFSPA.

A joint initiative of the National Alliance of Peoples� Movement (NAPM), Asha Parivar, Gandhi Global Family, Jagriti Mahila Samiti, Khudai Khidmatgar, Yuva Koshish, Mission Bhartiyam, Sadbhav Mission and the Asian Centre for Social Studies will also have a candle light prayer session at Rajghat in New Delhi on July 25 as part of the Campaign while around 1,000 people will lit candles on the same day in solidarity with the campaign through social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

A nation-wide signature campaign would be carried out on October 2.
