Campaign for pollution-free Diwali

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 29 - The residents of Kriragram today took out a procession calling for a pollution-free Diwali. The procession was flagged off by Prof Harendranath Sarma.

According to a press release, about 100 children of the Kriragram also took part in the procession wearing the uniforms of their respective schools. They also waved their self-made placards calling for eco-friendly Diwali celebration as part of a competition held to generate awareness among the children on the issue. A sapling plantation programme preceded the procession.

Tomorrow, sports events would be held by the organisers among the Kriragram children at around 10 am. The Kriragram campus would be illuminated with earthen lamps at around 5.30 pm.

This will be followed by a function to pay tributes to the victims of the October 30, 2008 bomb blast incidents and the soldiers of the Indian Army, who have made supreme sacrifice to uphold the sovereignty of the country.
