Camels recovered from Ratabari to be handed over to animal welfare board

SILCHAR, Dec 26 - Based on secret inputs, Karimganj police recovered as many as seven camels from Jalalabad area in Ratabari constituency of Karimganj constituency on Monday.

According to Karimganj SP Gaurav Upadhyay, five of the seven camels would be handed over to officials of the Animal Welfare Board of India.

Talking to The Assam Tribune on Tuesday, Upadhyay said that the camels were recovered from Ratabari constituency and five of them will be handed over to the officials of the Animal Welfare Board of India who have arrived from Rajasthan. He was quick to add that the remaining two camels will also be handed over to the Board officials after obtaining court orders. �The camels were recovered and a person identified as Sikandar Ali, the kingpin of the illegal camel trade has been arrested and taken on remand. We are waiting for the Court orders to hand over the remaining camels to the officials of Animal Welfare Board of India,� the SP informed.

Meanwhile, police informed that a case against the racket of camel smugglers has been registered at Ratabari police station under sections 379/411/428/429 of the IPC.
