Call to stop harassment in the name of NRC updation

By Correspondent

UDALGURI, June 19 - The All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU) and All Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani (AKRS) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister over the alleged harassment to the Koch Rajbongshi community in the name of updation of the NRC in various parts of Assam.

The three-page memorandum signed by AKRSUs Atul Barman faction secretary Sumanta Koch and AKRS president Sunil Kumar Barman, presidents and secretaries of Udalguri district committees of AKRSU and AKRS respectively, alleged that the underprivileged Koch Rajbongshi people have been harassed in the name of NRC verification, D voters, etc.

The memorandum claimed that the organisations have due respect for the NRC updation process and full support for its implementation in order to make Assam free from foreigners, but will not tolerate harassment of the Koch Rajbongshi people in the name of NRC updation.

The memorandum demanded that the State Government should take responsibility for the aboriginal Koch Rajbongshi people of the State and include them in the Aboriginal Inhabitants (OI) category.

The memorandum, submitted to the Chief Minister through the DC of Udalguri district expressed concern over the fact that while the Koch Rajbongshi community has been demanding ST status and a separate Kamatapur State, harassment to the community in the name of NRC updation is not acceptable.
