Call to revive Kampur Sugar Mill

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 28 - The Kampur-Nagaon Samabay Chenikol Suraksha Samity has demanded sincere steps from the new Government in the State to revive the Kampur Samabay Chenikal (Kampur Sugar Mill set up in the cooperation sector).

In a statement received here today, the Samity alleged that it was because of the negative attitude of the previous Government led by Tarun Gogoi as the Chief Minister, the sugar mill was declared shut down on September 1, 2010.

The sugar mill had to stop production because of the wrong policy of the Congress-led State Government in 2002. The State Government ceased to extend any loan assistance to the sugar mill it was assured to meet the expenses during the production period. And this led to the closure of the sugar mill in the long run, said the Samity in its statement.

The Samity is of the view that the new Government should revive the sugar mill even by involving the private parties for the purpose.
