Call to reopen Cachar Paper Mill

By STAFF Correspondent

SILCHAR, Jan 20 - Echoing voices of protest over the closure of the Cachar Paper Mill, the solitary industry of Barak Valley, over 1,000 people under the banner of All India Central Council of Trade Union (AICCTU) along with other associations, including CITU, INTUC, AITUC and AIUTUC assembled outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner and staged a protest demonstration.

During the protest, the annoyed and aggrieved members lamented that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government has failed to listen to the whimpers of the mill employees and their family members who have been worst-hit because of the closure of the mill.

Suprio Bhattacharjee, general secretary of CITU said that the BJP Government has miserably failed to fulfil its promise to revive the mill which is forcing us to come out on the streets to raise voices of protest.

We demand immediate revival of the closed mill, immediate release of the long-pending salaries of the employees who have been left to starve along with their family members. Also, we demand a thorough investigation of the alleged corruption which caused the crumbling down of the mill, Bhattacharjee maintained.
