GUWAHATI, Dec 14 The Asom Sikshak Karmachari Aikya Mancha has asked the State Government to provincialise the posts of teachers and workers of venture schools immediately or face a strong protest in the coming days.

Expressing resentment over the delay in the process of provincialisation, the forum of school teachers and workers said that the State Government is not taking adequate steps to address grievances of the teachers who are rendering their services at very meagre remuneration.

Venture school teachers are in a very pitiable state and many of them have also committed suicide. Thousands of them have retired from their posts without getting their due payments and others have spent decades in teaching with very little earning, Dr Prabhat Chandra Kalita, president of the Mancha, said in a press statement.

The forum also demanded amendment in the Venture School (Provincialisation of Service) Act and making it more teacher-friendly.

The State Govt should immediately release Rs 10 lakh to the families of teachers who committed suicide or died due to lack of healthcare, he added.
