Call to pay road tax by March 31

GUWAHATI, March 15 � The District Transport authority has called upon owners of motor vehicles in Kamrup Metro district to pay their outstanding road tax before end of the current fiscal year on March 31.

Gautam Das, District Transport Officer (Registration and Licensing) of Kamrup Metro, said in a statement that motor vehicle owners who have not paid their road tax and driving license holders who have not renewed their driving license can pay their taxes and fees between 10 am and 3 pm on all working days at specified cash counters of the office situated at Betkuchi.

He said that Motor Vehicle Inspectors under his direction have started a checking drive against the defaulting vehicle owners who has not paid their road tax to ensure that no vehicle can ply on the roads without paying tax.

Those vehicle owners who do not pay their tax before March 31 will have to face legal consequences and fine as per Motor Vehicle Act and rules, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Transport has written to the district transport officers of all the districts to mobilise their respective resources to achieve the desired target of motor vehicle revenue collection.

The copy of the letter has also been marked to the respective Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police.

�To augment the collection, you may perform special drive with police or district administration to detect illegal plying and plug the revenue leakage thereof,� the Commissioner wrote in his letter.
