By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 5 The Kamrup Mahanagar Samity of the Patanjali Yog Peeth and Bharat Swabhiman Nyash has appealed to the people of Assam to join the peaceful and democratic movement launch-ed by Baba Ramdev to eradicate corruption in the Indian society and to get back the enormous amount of Indian money stashed in Swiss banks by corrupt and anti-national elements of the country.

The organizers held a public discussion at the Freedom Fighterls Bhawan at Rupnagar on Tuesday and urged the national and regional press, both print as well as electronic, to shun their partisan attitude and present a correct picture of the current national non-violent struggle against corruption, black money and administrative manipulation.

Initiating the discussion, freedom fighter Kamakhya Prasad Das said that Satyagraha which was used by the Father of the Nation as the most potent weapon against the British imperialists was still relevant in the nations new struggle against corruption, hatred and violence.

Padma Hazarika, another freedom fighter expressing his horror at the unbelievable pace at which corruption was eating into the vitals of the Indian society, sought salvation through a mass non-violent upsurge.

The meeting was presided over by senior journalist DN Chakravartty and was addressed by Dr Noni Gopal Mahanta, Bimal Kumar Hazarika, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Abani Kumar Sarma and Subodh Kumar Sarma.

The convener of the meeting, Pramode Choudhury, while explaining the purpose of the meeting said that thousands of people of Assam would join the movement of Swami Ramdev in order to frustrate the designs of the hoarders of black money and illegal exporters of Indian currency to the foreign banks.

The meeting resolved that the passage of the Lokpal Bill in whatever form and content must ensure that corrupt elements in the country irrespective of their position would not be able to escape the hand of law.

Chakravartty in his speech stated the need for character building right from the school days and also highlighted the necessity of inculcating the sense of honour and swabhiman as Swami Ramdev has very often described for the redemption of the nation.

Dr Mahanta suggested that there should not be any conflict among the civil society in the common struggle against corruption and violence.
