Call to imbibe ideals preached by Bezbaroa

GUWAHATI, Oct 7 � The indigenous peoples of the State should get themselves united being inspired by the ideals preached by Lakshminath Bezbaroa, said former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha and noted litterateur Prof Nagen Saikia while inaugurating the week-long Jatiya Sachetanata Divas organised by the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on the occasion of the 150 birth anniversary of Bezbaroa at the Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir here today.

Saikia described Bezbaroa as one of the flag bearers of nationalism and the indigenous peoples of the State who are facing a threat to their existence, should get themselves inspired by the ideals preached by Bezbaroa, said Saikia.

Addressing the function, noted artist Subhaprasanna Bhattacharjee of Kolkata, Rabindranath�s grandson Amritendra Thakur, Prof Krishna Chandra Bhuyan of Odisha reminded the contributions of Bezbaroa in establishing links of Assamese leiterature with the Bangla and Oriya literatures. They also suggested similar functions in Kolkata. AGP president Atul Bora said that the ideals of Bezbaroa are still relevant. The AGP will continue to keep his ideals alive, he said.

Member of Bezbaroa family Rana Pratap Bezbaroa and others lit the lamps on the occasion. Prizes of the essay competitions held on the occasion were also distributed at the function, said a press release.
