Call to create women-friendly society in State

GUWAHATI, July 28 - The District Level Women Cell of Kamrup has laid stress on organising regular awareness campaigns on trafficking of women and on activating police station-wise anti-women trafficking cells.

Participating in the first meeting of the newly constituted District Level Committee, the members present also elaborately discussed various women-related problems.

Presiding over the meeting, Kamrup Additional Deputy Commissioner (Magistracy) Anurupa Baruah stressed the need for people�s participation, especially Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), to create a women-friendly society.

The District Level Women Cell of Kamrup was recently reconstituted with the DC Kamrup as Chairman; Election Officer of Kamrup Suranjana Senapati as Member Secretary and nine others as members. The other members are Executive Director of Assam Centre for Rural Development Dr Sunita Changkakati, a representative of Human Rights Law Network, the Chairman of Kamrup Zila Parishad, the Superintendent of Police, the ADC (Magistracy), the District Social Welfare Officer, a lady doctor of the Health & Family department, the Government Pleader and the Public Prosecutor of Kamrup district, an official release said.
