By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 30 Under the aegis of CPM Guwahati regional committee, a public meeting was held on June 27 at Narengi Patharquarry area here.

Presided over by a prominent local citizen named Bhupen Barman, the objectives of the meeting were explained by the committee's secretary Saifuddin Ahmed.

CPM Kamrup Metro secretaries Loknath Adhikari and Kashyap Choudhury were the appointed speakers on the occasion. Both the speakers highlighted the anti-people policies of the Union as well as the State government. In their detailed deliberations, both the speakers analysed the economic policies of the UPA as well as the present Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Concern was also voiced on lack of social security to the poor and working class people, spiralling prices of the essential commodities, financial support to the corporate groups and communal polarisation of the Indian society, said a press statement.

The issue of NRC and related public grievances was also raised in the meeting, asking the people to be vigilant so that no genuine Indian citizen is deprived of his or her rights during the NRC updating process.

The speakers also asked the common people and like-minded organisations to join the democratic movement against the anti-people policies of the government, added the statement.
