Call for infrastructure development in NE

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 23 - The governments of the north-eastern region need to focus on infrastructure development for a holistic socio-economic development of the region. The government, in fact, is giving special attention to infrastructure development projects, such as road, rail, communication and telecom network in the North East. This infrastructure development should be centred not only in roads, railways and other physical infrastructure development, but it also needs to focus on information technology and human resource development.

This observation was made by former Governor of Reserve Bank of India Dr YV Reddy at an event of the North East Institute of Advanced Studies (Northeast-IAS), while interacting with its civil service aspirants today.

While endorsing the Mission-100 of the Northeast-IAS, Dr Reddy said the NE also needs a new breed of youth leaders, who can constructively contribute towards the socio-economic development of the region, ranging from administrative services like Indian civil services and undertaking original action-oriented research and policy works.

Dr Reddy he saved the country from the 2008 financial crisis also responded to questions put by students and participants related to his book Advice and Dissent. I had the advantage of being always in India, unlike many other economists. I have been a witness to successes and setbacks, he said.

Himangshu Shekhar Das, State Chief Information Commissioner moderated the event.
