Call for Hindi translation of Assamese literary works

GUWAHATI, Aug 12 - President of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi has stressed the need for translation of Assamese literary works into Hindi in order to take them to readers across the country.

Rajbongshi said this at a function at the office of the Sabha while appreciating the translation work of Ravishankar Ravi, Editor of Dainik Purvodoy, a Hindi daily published from the city.

Ravi handed over a copy of his Hindi book titled Asam Sahitya Sabha: Sahitya Ka Mahakumbh to the Sabha chief. He also handed over copies of a few other Hindi books written by him.

Rajbongshi requested Ravi to print updated editions of the books. The Sabha president also appreciated the works of Ulupi, a publication house, in the promotion of Assamese literary works for Hindi readers.

Hailing Ravi for his works, general secretary of the Sabha, Podum Rajkhowa, said the latter was sincerely trying to promote Assamese literature at the national platform.

In his speech, Ravi said that he considers it as a responsibility to translate Assamese literary works into Hindi for readers outside the State. �I have tried to do my responsibility and it gives me immense pleasure, looking at the appreciation and love my works have received in the past 30 years,� he said.

Senior journalist Mani Mahanta, president of Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaroa Smritraksha Samiti, general secretary Pradyut Kumar Choudhury, writer Rantu Deka, senior journalist Udayan Biswas, Dhiren Saharia, and Kanak Kumar Bora also spoke at the function.
