Call for fellow feeling for Mrityunjoy staff

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 7 - The 108 Mrityunjoy Emergency Response Services have so far been able to render help in saving 1,36,876 lives at a time even as its ambulance team faces the wrath of the common people due to some misunderstanding between the Mrityunjoy Service employees and society at large.

Disclosing this, the GVK EMRI, the company that runs the services, in a statement also appealed to the common people to treat the team members of the 108 Mrityunjoy Ambulance service as their fellow brothers and sisters or friends. Team members of the 108 Ambulance service need cooperation from the people to serve the society better. In case of any complaints, instead of assaulting the Ambulance crew, people are requested to lodge their complaints by dialling 108, said the company.

It further requested the callers not to feel irritated when the Ambulance team members call them up to know the exact locations and landmark for reaching the scene in the shortest possible duration. Moreover, it is also a duty of the people not to make any prank or hoax call to the Ambulance service, which may result in depriving the genuine persons of the services of the ambulances. We have received 64.26 per cent ineffective calls out of the total calls received till date, it said.

The 108 Mrityunjoy Emergency Response Service fleet now comprises 380 ambulances. While, the drop back service called Adarani comprises 235 ambulances, 316 ambulances belong to the inter facility transfer.

The Mrityunjoy services have attended over 28 lakh emergency cases, over 11 lakh pregnancy emergency cases, and over one lakh RTA, said the company.

The company has increased the frequency of refresher training for its EMT and pilots. It encouraged Global Certification Program (GCP) for EMTs and it is aiming at enhanced pre-hospital care qualities, standards and services for the people of the State, said the company.

The 102 National Ambulance Service (NAS) is the first of its kind in the country to serve IFT (Inter Facility Transfer). The service is for the referred patients from a lower hospital to higher hospital. The NAS, in its three-and-half-a-year journey, has got a fleet strength of 316 vehicles out of the total 450 vehicles and covered all the districts of the State. It had attended to 4,90,174 IFT cases. The response centre in Guwahati had received over six lakh calls, out of which over five lakh were ineffective calls comprising No-response, hoax and child calls, etc.

Through the Adarani service, the company is covering 315 hospitals throughout Assam with a fleet strength of 235 vehicles, serving approximately 20,000 beneficiaries per month and till date it has served a total of over 10 lakh beneficiaries, said the company.
