Call for eradication of child labour

GUWAHATI, June 12 - World Day against Child Labour was organised by the Kamrup Metro district administration in association with the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) and with the help of Child Line and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) today at the District Library here.

Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of NCLP Kamrup Metro Dr M Angamuthu asked all government departments and NGOs to work towards fully eradicating child labour from the State.

The Deputy Commissioner requested the people in general to pass information with regard to use of child labour by anybody.

MLA of East Guwahati constituency Siddhartha Bhattacharya, the chief guest of the event described the issue of child labour as a sensitive one for society and expressed satisfaction with the steps taken by the district administration for eradication of child labour.

DCP of Central Police District, Guwahati Ranjan Bhuyan, in his speech, said that due to economic backwardness and insurgency the issue has been growing and called upon everybody to come forward to eradicate the menace.

During the event some meritorious students from NCLP�s Special Training School, Children Home and Dr Bhupen Hazarika Residential School were felicitated.

Earlier in the morning a walkathon was organised by the district administration from Latasil to District Library.
