Cachar district digital champion

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, March 3 - In a first of a kind activity, Cachar has become the first district in the country to launch a poll-friend mobile application, which was developed in collaboration with NIT Silchar during the 2016 Assembly elections to monitor electoral activities for smooth conduct of polling. Besides, the OPD services in the Silchar Medical College and Hospital is now completely computerized and a mobile application has also been launched at the District Rural Development Agency to take stock of the progress of schemes.

After the demonetisation of old high value currency notes on November 8 last year, the Cachar district administration took initiatives towards digital transformation and became the first district in the State to digitally disburse salaries of the employees in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Recognising these developments and the use of the ICT application for the greater interest, the Cachar district has emerged as the first district in Northeast and one of seven other districts in the country to be accorded with the title of digital champion district, an award given for best practices in e-content and creativity.

Cachar Deputy Commissioner S Viswanathan has won the Manthan Award in the District Collector Digital Champion category for 2016-17 for steering these result-oriented activities in the district. Viswanathan received the award recently at a function held at Surajkund.

The Manthan Award was instituted in 2004 by the Digital Empowerment Foundation in partnership with the World Summit Award, Department of Information Technology, Government of India, and various other stakeholders.
