Anti-India cries: In a major development related to the ongoing spree of anti-India slogans in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Cachar Police registered a case on the subject of alleged anti-India and pro-China slogans in Silchar.

According to sources, the slogans were chanted during a rally brought out by a Manipuri organisation named Manipuri Youth Front of Assam (MYFA) opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

There were reports of anti-India slogans and cheers for pro-China published in local dailies here. We have registered a case on the grounds of waging war against the government under sections 120A and 120B of the IPC and investigation is in progress.

The slogans, however, might have come from the sidelines of the rally. We are therefore looking into the available evidence, Cachar Superintendent of Police Mughdajyoti Dev Mahanta told The Assam Tribune.

On the other hand, leaders of MYFA have stated that they oppose the Bill on the grounds that it threatens the existence of the indigenous people of North East India.
