SILCHAR, Feb 8 - Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri, who had joined the district in January this year, interacted with the mediapersons here on Monday.
During the meeting at her conference hall, the Deputy Commissioner sought from the mediapersons information on the multiple problems prevailing in the district.
From development of roads to computerisation of the District Record Room, the Deputy Commissioner was appraised about the obstacles that impede public life here.
�I understand that the district is enmeshed with a plethora of problems and I shall try to address the issues from the grassroots to the top. I seek cooperation from the media in making the district reach its developmental goals. I shall put emphasis on the development of health condition of women and children, improving the sewage system which is unscientifically managed and also work on making the district clean and tidy. The irksome traffic congestion is also a major issue for which I shall speak with the police,� Madduri told the mediapersons. ADC Ranadeep Dam accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the press interaction.
Earlier in the day, Madduri held a meeting with officials of various departments during the District Development Committee meeting.
In the meeting, Madduri took stock of the status of schemes meant for public utility and also took note of the funds to be utilised. The core issues discussed in the meeting included confirmation of minutes of the previous DDC meeting, submission of utilisation certificates, discussion on dredging and development of the playground belonging to Cachar Sporting Club, discussion on construction of Azad Hind Road of Silchar, discussion on infrastructural development of Sundari Mohan Seva Bhawan, a charitable hospital located on the East West Corridor, discussion on CIDF, besides development of Tarapur Shivbari on the Silchar-Kalain Road, etc.
Anti-India cries: In a major development related to the ongoing spree of anti-India slogans in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Cachar Police registered a case on the subject of alleged anti-India and pro-China slogans in Silchar.
According to sources, the slogans were chanted during a rally brought out by a Manipuri organisation named Manipuri Youth Front of Assam (MYFA) opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
�There were reports of anti-India slogans and cheers for pro-China published in local dailies here. We have registered a case on the grounds of waging war against the government under sections 120A and 120B of the IPC and investigation is in progress.
The slogans, however, might have come from the sidelines of the rally. We are therefore looking into the available evidence,� Cachar Superintendent of Police Mughdajyoti Dev Mahanta told The Assam Tribune.
On the other hand, leaders of MYFA have stated that they oppose the Bill on the grounds that it threatens the existence of the indigenous people of North East India.
