Byrnihat landslide stalls traffic

JORABAT, Sept 6 - There has been continuous landslide in 22nd mile of Umling under Byrnihat Police Station in Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya and nearby areas since yesterday.

Today at around 2 pm, an entire hill collapsed upon the road and blocked the four-lane of National Highway-40, the road which connects the four States of Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and Barak Valley with the Brahmaputra Valley. The Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, Pooja Pandey said that the administration, police and NHAI officials were working round-the-clock to clear the debris from the road. She further added that they were trying to free one lane of the road by tommorow and presently the traffic has been diverted via Umling 20th mile road.
