Bwisagu celebrations in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR, May 3 � Like in the previous years, this year too Bwisagu is going to be celebrated with much pomp and gaiety at many places in Sonitpur district on May 6 and 8 in a bid to preserve and popularise the culture and heritage of the Bodos among the common masses.

On May 6, the 7th Annual Missamari Anchalik Rongjali Bwisagu celebration-cum-18th foundation year of Misamari Anchalik Boro Harimu Afat will be held at Garubandha Harimu Afat Bhawan of Misamari. In connection with this annual cultural programme, the Bwisagu flag was unfurled by the vice president of MABHA, Thaneswar Boro on April 15 morning last following which a cultural awareness programme was held among the people of the area in a bid to pass a message of how culture and literature can help people to live in the society with peace and harmony.

Among the organisers, Biju Boro while talking to this reporter said that the main programme will be held on May 6 with the unfurling of the flag of Harimu Afat at 8 am by Thaneswar Boro, prominent social worker of the area, unfurling of the Boro Sahitya Sabha flag and ABSU flag respectively by Rudra Dangiary, president, MAC/BSS and Duman Boro, president, MAC/ ABSU.

It will followed by homage to the martyrs by Bhadreswar Dangiary, HM, Dhekipelua LP School at 9 am, inauguration of late Dilip Kr Basumatary Memorial Gate by Phanidhar Boro, headmaster of Gormara ME School at 2 pm.

The major event of the day, �Geolang (open) Bwisagu competition� to be held from 2.30 pm will be inaugurated by the ex-Speaker of MAC/ABSU, Upen Boro and it will be followed by cultural exhibition and prize distribution and felicitation at 5 pm which will be addressed by ZPC member and social worker of the area Rathindra and Jayanta Kalita, OC, Missamari PS.

The organisers including Biju Boro have urged all concerned to extend a helping hand to make the programme a grand success.

On May 8, a day-long Bwisagu programme has been organised at Khelmati area near here. Secretary of the celebration committee, Sunil Kochari, in an e-mail sent to this correspondent, stated that the day�s proceedings will begin with the plantation programme at 8 am by Sunil Kochari which will be followed by a drawing competition among the children.

The main event of the day Rongjali (Mosanai) Dance competition will be held at 1 pm to be inaugurated by SP Sonitpur, AP Tewary. This special event will be followed by a prize distribution ceremony at 3 pm which will chaired by Santiranjan Basumatary. Diganta Ramchiary Assistant Inspector of Schools, SCD, Tezpur, Liladhar Boro and Sunilal Basumatary and president, Sonitpur ABSUwill be the guests of honour.

In the evening, a cultural nite programme will be held which will be participated by invited artists and it will be inaugurated by BDO, Dhekiajuli Development Block, Sujit Baglary.
