TURA, July 16 A senior accounts manager of a cashew processing company from Phulbari was kidnapped by unidentified armed men in the plain belt region of West Garo Hills district on Sunday.

The incident happened near Tikrikilla when he was going to Guwahati on Sunday afternoon.

The accounts manager, one Bolaram Sharma aged around 70, was going in his car to Guwahati when he was stopped by some armed men at Bamondanga, near Tikrikilla.

The kidnappers took Sharma towards the nearby jungle and he has not been traced so far.

On getting the information of his abduction, police swung into action and dispatched several teams to search and locate the businessman. They have arrested one Manik of Bamondanga who police said is strongly linked and in contact with the kidnappers.

The area where the kidnapping took place is a hot bed for militant activities and criminals due to its remote area. The ULFA and the anti-talks faction of the NDFB regularly use the area for movement and seeking shelter. The GNLA also operates in the area.
