Burn Care Day observed

GUWAHATI, Feb 12 - Burn Care Foundation, a social unit of Nemcare Hospital, Guwahati, observed Burn Care Day with a daylong programme at the District Library auditorium here today.

The Foundation has been observing the day since 2015 with a view to drawing people�s attention towards the need for taking quality care of burn victims and to generate awareness on other necessary care and precautions to be taken in case of such injuries.

Today�s event was inaugurated by Atul Sarma, District Development Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) and was attended by senior journalist Prashanta Rajguru as the chief guest.

A talk on burn-related prevention and first aid was delivered by Dr AM Vartak, consultant burn and plastic surgeon, Masina and Wadia Hospital, Mumbai.

An audiovisual presentation on the problems of burn patients and their management was presented by Dr Bhupendra Prasad Sarma, secretary, Burn Care Foundation.

A number of burn survivors also participated in the programme and a skit on the problem was presented by the hospital staff.

It needs mention here that from October 2010 to December 2019, Nemcare Hospital has treated 3,227 burn-related cases, of which 2,116 were OPD cases and 1,111 indoor cases. Of the indoor patients, 304 died in hospital while 601 patients were completely cured.

Of the cases received, 966 burn injuries were caused by accident. On the other hand, 136 of suicidal burn injuries and eight homicide cases were also reported, sources from the hospital said.
