Burha Ata award, Satra Bhushan title announced

BARPETA, Sept 24 - The Sri Sri Mathuradas Burha Ata award instituted by the Sakha Satra Samaj of Barpeta Satra will be awarded to eminent journalist and writer Gokul Pathak. The Satradhikar of the Badati Kumarkata Sangini Satra in Lakhimpur district Matilal Pegu has been selected for the Satra Bhushan title instituted by the organisation. The decision was taken in the core committee meeting of the Barpeta Satra chaired by Nabajit Das, Deka Satriya of Barpeta Satra after the screening committee approved their names.

Both the award and the title will be conferred on them in a function to be held on the September 27. While the Sri Sri Mathuradas Burha Ata award consists of a citation, sarai, memento and a cash amount, the Satra Bhushan title consists of a citation, Bhagawat, memento and Satriya Paguri.

The Sakha Satra Samaj has instituted the Burha Ata award to be given to a person with distinguished contributions to promotion of the ideals, literary and cultural works of Sri Sri Sankardeva and Madhabdeva. The Satra Bhushan title was instituted to be given to a person promoting Satriya culture directly or indirectly.

Both the award and the title were introduced in 2013 to be given biennially. Burha Satriya of Barpeta Satra Bashishtha Dev Sarma and Satradhikar of Barangajuli Satra Harekrishna Mahanta were conferred the Burha Ata Award and Satra Bhushan title respectively in 2013.
