GUWAHATI, July 1 - Four miscreants allegedly broke into the house of a businessman at Maligaon at decamped with valuables, mostly jewellery, worth several lakhs of rupees.

The actual value of the looted items was yet to be estimated. Suresh Poddar, the owner of the house, said he and his family had gone to Kolkata for a function on June 29. They were to return on July 4. The house, located at Green Park, was being looked after by a caretaker.

CCTV footage showed that the caretaker had opened the door of the house at around 11.30 pm yesterday, after which the four miscreants entered the house.

The role of the caretaker, identified as Choudhury Mondal, is also under the scanner. Mondal was, however, unharmed.

An FIR has been lodged at the Maligaon police out post, and police are likely to question the caretaker.
