Budding singer remains untraced 11 months on

DUDHNOI, Dec 15 � Sagar Paban alias Upen Rabha, a budding artist of Assam has been missing since January 9 last year.

In January, a clash broke out between Rabhas and Garos along the Assam-Meghalaya border, especially in Goalpara district and East Garo Hills district. As a result, more than 1,000 people of both Rabha and Garo communities became homeless and were forced to take shelter in temporary relief camps.

On January 9, Sagar Paban was on his way to provide relief materials to homeless people with a group from Borduar-Bholagaon in Kamrup district. The group came under attack at Paikan under Krishnai police station in Goalpara district on its way back from Kukurkata area. A miscreants� group consisting of about 30-40 people attacked the vehicle and assaulted the innocent with rods, sticks and other sharp weapons.

As many as 11 persons were seriously injured and five person went missing.

One injured person, Krishna Rabha (16) was found in a serious condition the next day from a spot near the place of incident. After two weeks, the latter died.

The bodies of three missing persons, Iswar Rabha, Joyanta Rabha and Mohan Rabha were recovered on January 26 near the Tukreswari Hill at Lower Khermohra village. But no clue has yet been found about the youth, Sagar Paban alias Upen Rabha since then.

The All Rabha Students� Union, All Rabha Women�s Council and the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee submitted a memorandum to the district administration, DIG and Chief Minister of Assam. But no result has come out yet. It may be mentioned that there was an Army camp near the spot where the attack took place.
