Bud CC retain title

GUWAHATI, Dec 20 � With a thumping 75-run victory against Navarang Club, defending champions Bud Cricket Club retained the title in the Ratan Lal Singhania and Mohini Devi Singhania Ankurjyoti Challenge Cricket Tournament.

In the one-sided final played at the Judges� Field here today, in reply to Bud�s 175 for 8 in 35 overs, Navarang were all out for 100 in 28.1 overs.

Assam Ranji stumper Kunal Saikia (45), Prasanta Sonowal (40) and Rishav Das (37) guided Bud to reach the fighting total. Later the star studded Bud bowling attack, comprising of Ranji pacer Pritom Das and Krishna Das left no room for the Navarang batsmen and were forced to fold their innings at meagre total.

Rishav Das was adjudged player-of-the-tournament while Prasanta Sonowal received the man-of-the-final award. Romario Sharma of City Cricket Club and Sekharjyoti Barman of Navarang got the best batsman and best bowler awards respectively. Navajyoti Club was selected for the fair play trophy. The winning team became richer by Rs 12,000 while the runners-up team got Rs 8,000 as prize-money along with the trophies. Navajyoti Club was awarded Rs 3,000.

Best batsman, best bowler and fair play trophies were donated by Apurba Sarma in memory of Thaneswar Sarma.

Ankurjyoti Club president Rana Goswami, sponsors Mahabir Singhania, Ajay Singhania, Soruj Khemka, Mahesh Mour, former Ranji players Naba Konwar, Biswajit Mazumdar were present in the closing function and they gave away the prizes.
