BTC no objection to ST status for Saranias

BARAMA, Feb 9 � �The BTC administration has no objection to granting of ST certificates to the Sarania Kachari community. A decision to this effect was adopted in the BTC council for necessary action of the higher authority,� said Hagrama Mohilary, BTC chief while speaking as the distinguished guest in the open session held on the occasion of the 14th annual conference of the All Assam Sarania Kachari Students� Union at Tamulpur on February 7. Mohilary appealed to the Bodo people and the Sarania Kacharis to work for the development of society with mutual cooperation and brother hood. Mohilary also urged all sections of people of different communities not to create any differences or division among the people and Sarania Kacharis people who are a vital community of BTAD.

He also severely criticised the NDFB, who he alleged had maligned the position of the Bodo people. He reiterated his stand that the Bodos are no longer in a position to tolerate such an anti-people attitude of the NDFB. Biswajit Daimari, Rajya Sabha MP also spoke in the meeting.

Ramesh Chandra Das, the chairman of the Sarania Kachari Development Council while inaugurating the open session said that the Sarania Kachari people have to remain united. He also expressed serious concern that the community is lagging behind and is neglected by the Government. Ismail Hussain, an eminent writer said that the Sarania Kachari community is gradually advancing in culture, language and literature. He urged the Sarania Kachari people to develop themselves culturally and educationally and have their own identity. Aditya Khaklary, general secretary of the All Assam Tribal Sangha, Nava Sarania, MP, Imamul Muchahary, MLA, Maneswar Rabha, president of the Rabha Students� Union, Maneswar Brahma, MLA, Ganesh Kachari, executive member, BTC among others also spoke in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Lankeswar Deka, president of the students union.

Earlier, Dipak Deka, the vice-chairman of the Sarania Kachari Development Council inaugurated the cultural procession brought out on the occasion. A new body of the All Assam Sarania Kachari Students� Union was formed with Hiran Sarania as president and Dipjyoti Sarania as the general secretary along with 30 members and office bearers.
