BSNL to widen service network all over State

BONGAIGAON, Nov 13 - The rural populace all over the State will soon be able to avail better and speedier BSNL phone and internet services, Mahesh Kumar Seth, Chief General Manager of BSNL (Assam) told mediapersons here today.

At a press meet organised at the conference hall of the BSNL General Manager�s office here, Seth said that in order to meet the target, work has already started in Gram Panchayat areas in eight districts of the State to provide high-speed network services.

Rural pockets sans telephone connectivity would soon be linked by BSNL wifi and hotspot under National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) project to materialise Prime Minister Modi�s Digital India dream, Seth said.

Bongaigaon Secondary Switching Area (SSA) covers eight revenue districts, 18 sub-divisional headquarters, 91 exchanges and 51 blocks.

Meanwhile, Bongaigaon SSA has planned to commission 31 Second Generation Mobile Telephone System (2G) Base Tranceiver Station (BTS) and 19 Third Generation Mobile Telephone System (3G) BTS sites within this financial year.

Bongaigaon SSA is going to launch 2G sites at Bhalukamari, Ishapurhati, Jaleswar, Satrasal, Morowa, Nayekgaon, Gorubhasa, Dudhnoi, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) area of Salakati by using Cor-Dect towers.

A total of 23,229 landlines, 6,676 Broad Band Conncetions, 1,406 Wi-Max connections, 48,475 Cell One post-paid and 39,2678 Cell One pre-paid services have been functional under Bongaigaon SSA.

The Chief General Manager launched six new mobile towers at Nalbari, Barpeta and Bongaigaon districts.
