SHILLONG, Oct 20 - Border Security Force troops seized 29 cattle at Tuka, Muktapur, in West Jaintia Hills district and Nilwagiri in South Garo Hills district worth more than Rs 3.89 lakh while they were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
When the BSF personnel reached the spots in bad weather conditions, the smugglers fled under the cover of darkness, an official statement said today.
Last week, BSF troops had seized 119 cattle, 366.37 cubic feet of wooden logs, 20 boats, 663 liquor bottles and 1,850 bamboos worth more than Rs 33.20 lakh on the Meghalaya border.
Special operations are being conducted by the BSF troops to curb illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The seized items were handed over to the authorities concerned for further action, the statement added.
