BSF jawan shoots dead 3 colleagues, kills self

AGARTALA, May 6 - A BSF jawan allegedly shot dead three colleagues with his service weapon before committing suicide today at a border outpost at Maguruli in Unakoti district, about 180 km from Agartala, police said.

SP (Special branch), Shankar Debnath said the BSF jawan opened fire on three others including a head constable before killing himself.

The incident happened at around 1 am.

The head constable died on the spot. One of the injured jawans succumbed to injuries at Unakoti district hospital and another jawan, who was shifted to ILS Hospital in Agartala, also died, Debnath said.

He said investigation is on and a detailed report is awaited.

When contacted, a highly placed BSF official confirmed the incident.

Rifleman Shishupal of BSF fired upon head Rifleman Vijay Kumar apparently in a tiff. Subsequently, Shisupal also opened fire at Rifleman cum Driver Rakesh Kumar Yadav and Constable Rinku Kumar and later shot himself dead.

Constable Rakesh Kumar Yadav and Rifleman Rinku Kumar were taken to Civil Hospital at Kailashahar, where constable Rinku succumbed to his injuries. Constable Rakesh Kumar was evacuated in an ambulance to ILS hospital here where he breathed his last on Sunday morning.

Inspector General, Tripura Frontier and senior BSF officials rushed to the spot for an enquiry, a BSF press release said. �At the moment, we are in deep sorrow and the enquiry will unearth the reason behind the most bloodiest incident in a BSF barrack in recent past�, said a senior BSF official under the cover of anonymity.

The BSF Tripura Frontier has expressed deep shock, at the fratricide at BOP Magroli in Unakoti district�s Kailashahar subdivision on Saturday night and have offered their condolences to the next of kins.

Arrangements have been made to send the mortal remains of the dead soldiers to their respective homes by air.
