By Biplab Kr Dey

TURA, Aug 13 - As a part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the Border Security Force (BSF) today bettered its own record of the most tree saplings planted within a 30- minute period. The tree plantation drive started at 10 am and finished exactly at 10.30 am. The record set by the BSF was beaten this year with the BSF claiming plantation of more than four lakh saplings.

The 50th year celebration of the security force would end on December 1. The BSF is not only about protecting the citizens and its border but also about caring for the environment. With global warming being a huge factor in life, we too want our contributions to make a difference to all. This is the reason we have begun tree sapling plantation since 2013, said DIG BSF, Aseem Vyas.

The initiative also helped better their own record of last year when a total of more than 3,90,000 saplings were planted which went into the Limca Book of Records. Since 2013, more than 1.5 crore trees have been planted in the area of BSFs command and also along Indias border with Bangladesh and Pakistan, a BSF official said.
