Bru repatriation in June

By The Assam Tribune

AIZAWL, May 6 Mizoram Government today said it will resume repatriation of Brus lodged in the six relief camps in Tripura from the first week of June.

The States Additional Secretary for Home Lalbiakzama said the decision was made at the meeting of the State Core Committee on Bru Repatriation chaired by Chief Secretary Lalmalsawma last evening.

Following Supreme Courts directives and the decision made in the meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mizoram and Tripura Governments on January 30, we proposed to repatriate all the remaining Bru families from the relief camps in North Tripura district, Lalbiakzama said.

The Core Committee meeting was also attended by DCs and SPs of Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei districts.

The Ministry of Home Affairs recently released Rs 4.7 crore for the repatriation expenses, Lalbiakzama said, adding that the amount would not be sufficient for repatriation of all the remaining Bru families.

The detailed action plan and movement plan would be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs so that it would ensure continued flow of funds for the repatriation process.

Home Minister R Lalzirliana informed the Assembly on March 25 that the January 30 meeting decided that those who refuse to return to Mizoram should be regarded as permanent residents of Tripura after six months. PTI
