Bring situation under control, APCC tells govt

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 23 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today demanded of the State Government to take firm steps to bring the law and order situation under control.

In a statement issued here today, the APCC alleged that the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, is spending most of his time attending festivals and only issuing directives to Assam Police to bring the law and order situation under control.

On the other hand, militant groups have geared up their activities and incidents of extortion, murder, kidnapping, and bomb blast are increasing in the State.

The APCC said that the State was now facing a lawless situation and many educated youths are now opting for militant organisations, which was a result of the lack of commitment, inefficiency and deceitful activities of the State government.

Contrary to the present situation, the police department under the previous government led by the Congress could bring back many youths from militant organisations to the mainstream of the society, the party said.
