Brahmaputra maintaining steady trend

GUWAHATI, July 16 - The Brahmaputra was flowing at 51.23 metres in the city this evening. The danger level of the mighty river in the city is 49.68 metres, according to sources in the State�s Water Resources Department. However, the river was maintaining a steady trend here since 4 pm today.

It may be mentioned here that the river recorded a flood level of 51.46 metres in the city in 2004. Today�s level of the river is considered to be the highest after that of 2004.

Meanwhile, the swelling Kolong is posing a serious threat to its embankment at 25 locations in the Amarapathar area under Sonapur Revenue Circle, on the southeastern fringe of the city.

A team of officials and workers is engaged there to prevent any damage to the embankment, the sources said.
