Brahmaputra fest at Dhubri from March 31

DHUBRI, March 5 - To promote the culture, art, tourism, skill industry, trade, commerce and heritage of people living in the western part of the mighty river Brahmaputra, Dhubri along with the other parts of the State will host the Namami Brahmaputra Festival from March 31.

The five-day long cultural feast will be organised in the Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah playground where a host of events, galleries and exhibitions has been planned to showcase the livelihood of people living near the Brahmaputra. After discussion with a team of senior citizens and heads of various departments, the district administration in a release stated that although most of the events have been organised in the playground but the cultural programmes will be conducted by the river side of mighty Brahmaputra at the Jogomaya ghaat. It also informed that the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is likely to participate on the first day of the festival.

Apart from various exhibitions, seminars, symposiums and conferences, the festival will also promote traditional sports and games through competitions. Boat race, horse racing, documentary film exhibition, photography exhibition, painting exhibition, handloom and terracotta exhibition, traditional fashion show and music competition will be conducted.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri, Dhiraj Chaudhary said that this is for the first time such a festival is being organised in this part of the State and appealed all to come forward to make the festival a grand success.
