IMPHAL, Nov 29 A 11-year-old boy was killed in a bomb explosion today ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modis visit to Manipur.

The blast took place when Wajajuddin, a class II student, was passing through Sagol Loukon paddyfield in Lilong area, barely 300 metres from the Lilong Police station and Assam Rifles post around 9.30 am today, police said.

Police said that the bomb could be an IED (improvised explosive device). We found no splinter at the explosion site, the police officer added. Suspecting hands of militants in planting the bomb, the police said they have started investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, locals of Lilong area have condemned the incident and demanded removal of the Assam Rifles post within 24 hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the closing function of the 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival.

Security has been beefed up in and around Imphal town in view of Narendra Modis maiden visit to the State after becoming Prime Minister. Official sources said, Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh will receive the Prime Minister at Tulihal Airport.

Modi is also scheduled to visit Bharatiya Janata Party State unit office here before leaving for Dimapur by a special aircraft.

Condemning Modis visit to Manipur for suppressing the people of the region by using draconian laws, the Coordination Committee of six major armed groups in Manipur known as CorCom has called a 24-hour curfew in the State during Modis visit.
