Boy hurt in communal clash at 15 Mile

SHILLONG, July 13 - Meghalaya police have rushed one company of paramilitary force after a fight erupted between two communities, resulting in arson and injuries at 15 Mile, GS Road on Meghalaya-Assam border this afternoon.

�We have rushed one company of CRPF to the area as a precautionary measure. The incident happened on the Assam side of the border, but we have sent the force to normalise the situation. We are also in touch with our Assam counterpart,� a senior police official said.

The State police have also rushed in Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police, GD Kharwanlang and a magistrate to the area. �There is a meeting being held by one of the communities at 12 Mile near Jorabat at 7 pm to defuse the tension,� Kharwanlang said over the phone.

The incident happened after a boy from one community was assaulted by a group of people from another community. The incident flared up with clashes between the two communities in which several people were injured and shops set ablaze.
