SHILLONG, Dec 27 - Boxing Day was celebrated in Christian-dominated Meghalaya on Saturday with people unwrapping gift boxes received as part of Christmas festivities.

The day is celebrated a day after Christmas and is the feast day of Saint Stephen. It is an important day in the 12-day Christmas celebration. The alms boxes of several churches for collecting gifts for the less privileged and the poorer classes are also opened on Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, the State Government offices will reopen on January 4. The General Administration Department has announced that three working days lost between Christmas and New Year will be compensated in March next year. � PTI
