Boro crop damaged

MORIGAON, May 1 � More than one lakh people of Mayong and Bhuragaon were affected as flood waters of the Brahmaputra inundated more than 169 revenue villages during last week in Morigaon district.

The surging waters damaged dwelling houses and standing boro crops in three mouzas, namely � Paharia, Mayong, Manaha in Mayong revenue circle. According to official sources, more than 70,000 hectares of boro fields are under flood waters giving a severe blow to marginal farmers. The ongoing census programme came to a halt in Bhuragaon and Mayong due to the flood.

The local MLA and parliamentary secretary of PWD Bibekananda Doloi visited the affected areas on April 27 and took stock of the situation. He asked the concerned departments to take immediate relief measures to ameliorate the plight of the affected people.
