Borkhola OC suspended, situation tense

SILCHAR, Oct 1 - Tense situation prevails in Cachar district a day after a person was mowed down by a speeding truck carrying stones at Moinargarh under Borkhola police station on Wednesday. Later, a mob had set the truck ablaze and lynched the driver identified as Saidul Alam Barbhuiya.

The Cachar district unit of AIUDF has demanded a compensation of Rs 10,00,000 to the family of the deceased driver. The party has demanded the arrest of the culprits involved in the brutal killing of the driver within 24 hours. Also, the party pressed for suspension of the officer in-charge of Borkhola Police outpost Siblal Kumar for dereliction of duty.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Rajveer Singh said that the officer in-charge Siblal Kumar has been suspended and the police is keeping a close watch on the developments. The SP has appealed to the political fraternity to refrain from making remarks that might flare up communal tension. He also informed that peace committees have been formed under every police outpost in the district. �We are trying to restore peace in the district and expect people to cooperate,� the SP said.

Further, he said that Mukul Saotal, Ratan Saotal and Jadhav Saotal have been arrested in connection with the incident.

It may be mentioned here that a mob of locals had blocked the Silchar-Saurashtra Mahasadak at Borkhola on Wednesday afternoon after a speeding truck carrying stones mowed down a cycle rider Badal Saotal (32), a local resident.

According to police, the incident took place at Moinargarh under Borkhola PS around 3pm. Saotal was going towards his home when a truck moving towards Udharbondh knocked him down. Police informed that the mob set the truck ablaze and the driver was beaten to death.
