Border inspector arrested

By CORRESPONDENT

DIPHU, Aug 23 - In a bizarre incident, the Diphu police has arrested Jotin Chandra Bora, border inspector of the Assam Police posted at Golaghat, on the charge of misappropriating government funds.

According to police sources, a case (no. 278/2018) has been registered against him and charges under relevant sections have been pressed.

Bora, who was posted as prosecuting inspector in the Court of Deputy Commissioner, Karbi Anglong during the demonetisation period, was in possession of Rs 53.37 lakh in cash but only deposited Rs 40.42 lakh in the government account.

Bora was earlier summoned by the Diphu police several times for clarifying the matter but he did not pay any heed to the same. It may be stated that in 2003, a huge quantity of cash, ornaments, arms and ammunition were recovered from the custody of the prosecuting inspectors court (malkhana), and Bora along with a home guard was held responsible subsequently.
