Book released to mark 50th year of novel

GUWAHATI, Nov 6 - Eminent writer Dr Nagen Saikia, professor Upendra Nath Sarma, journalists Anuradha Sarma Pujari and Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, politician Pradyut Bordoloi, writer Rajib Boruah and Tabiul Hussain released the book titled Ejon Bishanna Deka Lora at the Gauhati Town Club auditorium on November 3.�

Edited by Nikumoni Hussain and published by Nabin Anuj Priyabandhu Samaj, the book was released to celebrate the 50th year of well-known writer Nabin Baruah�s novel Cotton College. Baruah wrote this immensely popular novel in 1969 and it is still regarded as the first campus novel in the Assamese language.

The book contains as many as 81 articles written by the fans of Baruah and his novel. In the programme writer Nirupma Borgohain handed over the book to Nabin Baruah. Writer-editor Homen Borgohain has written the foreword of the tome.�

In the programme, the Bangla edition of novel Cotton College was also released by well-known columnist of West Bengal, Dr Ratan Bhattacharjee.�

This Bengali version is translated by writer Basudev Das and published by Shristisukh Publication of Kolkata. The novel was earlier translated into English also.
