GUWAHATI, Sept 22 - A book on Assam�s land and revenue laws by Arun Chandra Goswami, a retired ACS officer, was released at a function held under the presidentship of DN Chakravartty at the Guwahati Press Club today.
Releasing the book, Dr Subhram Rajkhowa said there had been a dearth of books in Assamese in respect of land revenue laws in the State. He hoped that the book would be useful not only to lawyers and revenue officials, but also to the people at large.
Chakravartty, in his speech, described the book as an authentic document in respect of land and revenue laws of Assam and said that it would prove to be beneficial to all the educated people in Assam in general and lawyers, journalists and law students in particular. He added that the problem of land encroachment stemmed from the dereliction of duty and gross failure on the part of the revenue officials right from DC, SDO, settlement officer and circle officer down to the mandals and kanongos.
Dr Surendra Mohan Mahanta, Dr Sarat Chandra Talukdar, Dr RM Sarma and Anil Kumar Majumdar also addressed the meeting. Kabin Goswami offered the vote of thanks.
