Bongaigaon, Feb 1: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has released its Bongaigaon district unit president Sankar Prasad Ray from the post so that he can prepare to fight the upcoming Assembly polls in Bongaigaon seat as a candidate from the party. As per instruction of the APCC, Ray will hand over the charge of to the newly-appointed district unit working president Bhaskar Sarkar soon, he said.

“Such letters have been issued to a total of 19 district unit presidents of the party to project them as candidates in the upcoming Assembly polls and I am also one among them who received the letter,” Ray said.

On the other hand, besides Ray there are two more activists of the party in the district unit who are likely to seek candidatures from Bongaigaon Assembly segment, a local senior activist of the party said adding that infighting among some workers and leaders of the district unit has already weakened the party in the district and taking this as an advantage, Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is making its base in Bongaigaon seat stronger than earlier.

Some local senior Congress activists had alleged that a few dissident workers of the party had joined their hands with local AGP legislator and Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury to ruin the Congress in the district.
