Bodybuilding meet at Sivasagar

GUWAHATI, Nov 10 � The All Assam Bodybuilding Association (AABBA), to mark its silver jubilee year, is planning to hold the State level bodybuilding championship, for the Mr Assam title, at Sivasagar from December 5 to 7.

Addressing a press conference here today, the organising committee president MLA Debabrata Saikia revealed that the AABBA will also organise an all India invitation bodybuilding meet along with the State championship. The meets will be held at the Piyoli Phukan Stadium and Boarding Field. Saikia also informed that a total amount of Rs 5 lakh each is at stake as prize money for both the championships.

Saikia hoped that about 400 bodybuilders from all over the State will be seen in action during the three-day meet.

AABBA president Bipul Deori said, the champion of the champions in the State meet will be awarded Rs 35,000 cash and a Hero Honda mobike. Deori also said that all the top position holders in all categories will get Rs 25,000 each. The competitions will be conducted in junior, senior and masters categories.

AABBA secretary Bijit Gogoi, who had been Mr India title holder, said they have invited all the bodybuilders of the State to take part in the meet. He said, although at present several bodybuilding organisations are active in the State, the AABBA has urged players of all the groups to take part in the meet.

In junior category competitions will be conducted in five weight categories while in the senior section there will be seven weight groups. In the masters category, competitors will be decided in three weight groups, informed Bijit. He informed that the weighing will be held on December 5 and next day the pre-judging will be completed. The finals will be held at the Boarding Field on December 7 evening.

The organisers are also planning to invite a leading professional bodybuilder from USA for demonstration.
