Body of BSF jawan untraced, search still on

By Correspondent

TURA, July 1 - The body of the BSF jawan, Dharamveer Singh, who was swept away by the swift current of the Ganol river yesterday, is yet to be recovered despite an extensive search carried out by district disaster management authorities, police and BSF personnel.

Singh is suspected to have drowned near the popular spot of Pelga Dare while on a picnic with his colleagues from the 55 Battalion BSF stationed at Dobasipara in Tura.

A search and rescue team comprising of the district police, SDRF as well as BSF personnel went to the spot and tried to locate the missing BSF man but had to abandon their search due to fading light.

The search operation began at dawn today and has continued since. The efforts are being coordinated by the District Disaster Management Committee but till now we have been unsuccessful in finding the jawan, said district police chief, Dr MGR Kumar.

We fear the jawan may have been washed downstream and all people downstream have been informed to keep a lookout. The strong current has hampered search and rescue efforts. We are doing our utmost in the matter, added the SP.
