Bodousa Cup football tournament from Sept 9

GUWAHATI, Aug 17 - The Bodousa Cup, which is gradually gaining popularity as a football tournament in Assam, will kick start on September 9 in different places of the State.

The tournament has been organised by the Bodousa Football Club along with Assam Football Association.

Addressing a press conference here today, the Bodousa FC president Arunjyoti Moran said that this year the tournament will be staged in places like Majuli, Tinsukia, Sadiya, Margherita, Dibrugarh, Doomdooma, Digboi and Duliajan under the guidance of their respective sports association.

Teams from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh (Saife Sports Club), Nepal (Shyachal Youth Club) will be contesting with top national and State outfits like � Jamshedpur FC (ISL team), defending champions Gorkha Training Centre, TRAU FC of Manipur (last year�s B Div I-League champion), Assam Rifles, Oil India FC, Assam Police Blues.

Other teams include Bodousa FC, Barekuri FC, Tinsukia Divisional Railway SC, Sonowal Kachari Autonoumas Council (SKAC) FC, Genex FC, Kundil Valley FC, Moran Town Club, Jorhat Town Club, Holowating United FC, Morning Star FC of Karbi Anglong, DFA Changlang, Namrup Town Club, Jerai Modoi Juba Krira Manch and Duliajan FC.

The organisers have set up an organising body with MP Pradan Baruah as president, Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta and SKAC Chief EM Dipuranjan Makrari as working presidents.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the championship at Gormur Mini Stadium, Majuli on September 9 and on the same day another match will be played at Bir Lachit Stadium, Sadiya.

A budget of Rs 1.62 crore has been prepared to host the championship.

Today, along with Arunjyoti Moran, AFA secretary Ankur Dutta, Bodousa SC assistant secretary Biswajit Moran, All Moran Students� Union assistant secretary Munin Duwara, among others were present. The final is slated for September 23.
