GUWAHATI, March 15 - The Bodo Sahitya Sabha while expressing concern at the errors found in a Bodo language textbook published by the SEBA has warned the Board not to display such irresponsible behaviour regarding the Bodo language and literature.
The Sabha along with other organisations staged a mass dharna on the bank of the Dighalipukhuri here on Tuesday demanding of the government and all authorities concerned to take appropriate steps to rectify the errors as well as take action against those who are guilty of committing this error.
The Sabha has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam calling for necessary action in this connection.
The errors have been found in the textbook on social science for class X for the academic year 2016. The Sabha alleged that the SEBA had assured that the textbook would be reviewed with the experts appointed by the Bodo Sahitya Sabha and arrangement would also be made for its reprinting.
But very unfortunately, the SEBA authority did not keep its words and reprinted the book again with gross mistakes and handed over to us some copies of the same just yesterday. If such an irresponsible activity of the SEBA playing with the Bodo language and literature is continued in future, the Bodo Sahitya Sabha will be left with no alternative but to take out a protest rally burning down the copies of such erroneous textbook publicly, warned the Sabha.
The Sabha has also termed the burning down of answer-scripts of HSLC Examination, 2016 as very unfortunate and pathetic. In this context too, the SEBA authority has totally failed to book the real culprits involved, barring the suspension of the temporary night chowkidar and the headmistress of the school and some other officers and employees. Time and again, the SEBA has been reluctant in bringing the real culprits to book although such scandalous incidents have been taking place from time to time, said the Sabha.
The Sabha has also expressed concern at question papers getting leaked in the higher secondary final examination this year. This incident has nakedly exposed the (Higher Secondary) Council and how serious it is about its transparency and secrecy so far as examination matter is concerned. The Council has also failed to bring to book the real culprits involved in the leakage of question papers and punish them accordingly as per law, said the Sabha.
The Sabha has insisted that the textbook on social science for class X published by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam this year must be rectified, reprinted, republished and distributed among the students free of cost. The literary body has also called for appointments of two academic officers of Bodo medium background in the SEBA, one each for arts and science streams without delay.
The Sabha has also demanded that both the present Chairman and Secretary of the SEBA should be removed from their respective posts and efficient officers of IAS category should be appointed in their places, besides dissolution of the present Board of Secondary Education, Assam and its reconstitution in no time.
